MPBF Developing Next Generation of Trial Attorneys

Murphy, Pearson, Bradley & Feeney is hosting its Annual Mock Trial, scheduled for Saturday, February 4th, 2023, at USF School of Law. A firm with dozens of attorneys who possess decades of trial experience, MPBF is dedicated to training the next generation of trial lawyers through the mock trial program.

“We are proud to resume our long tradition of hosting an annual firm-wide mock trial event”, Managing Shareholder, Aaron McClellan, stated. “MPBF prioritizes the preparation and mentoring of our attorneys in the arts of persuasive public speaking and professional trial presentation. We are thankful to USF School of Law for continuing to graciously allow us to utilize their beautiful mock trial facility.”

MPBF places a particular emphasis on mentoring, and the mock trial is the ideal opportunity to train new and less experienced lawyers. According to Michael Bradley, a founding shareholder of the firm, “There is no substitute for actually being in trial. But the closest thing to it is a mock trial program. For a trial firm like ours it is essential that newer lawyers be exposed to the mock trial experience in advance of the real thing.”

With six ABOTA members, former federal and state prosecutors with extensive state and federal trial experience, the firm’s attorneys have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to share. Shareholder Philip Kearney, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and USDOJ/NDCA Digital Currency Coordinator said, “It is gratifying to pass on whatever skills I’ve cobbled together over the years in state, federal, and international courtrooms to the next gifted generation at MPBF.”

Shareholder Timothy Halloran added “A foundation of our democracy is trial by jury. We are a firm that tries cases for our clients. One of the ways we ensure that younger lawyers in our firm master those skills needed to do so is through our mock trial program.”

As a part of the core mentoring program, young lawyers are involved in trying cases with shareholders and senior associates early on in their careers. Ebony Koger experienced this firsthand and greatly benefitted from the unique development opportunity at MPBF. “Murphy, Pearson is one of the few law firms who not only gives new associates opportunities to participate in litigation but love to do so. As an entry level associate, within a year and a half I was appearing in depositions, arguing motions and acting as second-chair in a trial”, Ebony shared.

The Mock Trial will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 8:30 am PST to 4:30 pm, at the USF School of Law, Moot Court Room located at 2130 Fulton St., San Francisco, CA 94117. For further information please contact Bryan Saalfeld at bsaalfeld@mpbf.com.
